For the new subscribers, check out the February Highlights as it goes into detail on how RFS actually works in the simplest way possible. The March Highlights goes into ‘Separated RINs vs Assigned RINs’.
April Gross RIN Generation
RIN generation in April decreased to 1.79 billion RINs vs March.
D3 RIN gen: 11.2 million vs 97.84 million in Mar ‘25 (March revised up again)
D4 RIN gen: 591 million vs 573 million in Mar ‘25
D5 RIN gen: 23 million vs 25 million in Mar ‘25
D6 RIN gen: 1,161 million vs 1,214 million in Mar ‘25
Total RIN gen: 1,787 million vs 1,910 million in Mar ‘25
D6 RIN Generation
D6 RINs known as the ‘Conventional’ category is nearly 100% corn based ethanol. Fuels with the lowest GHG emissions reduction vs petroleum fuels are put into this category. And RIN generation within this space has been stagnant relative to gasoline seasonality in the 1.1-1.3 billion RIN range due to most the of gasoline in the US being blended with 10% ethanol from corn. (1 ethanol gallon = 1 RIN)
